French security forces arrested more than 510 people this Saturday as part of demonstrations in various cities of the country to protest against the continuous increase in the cost of living and the increase in the prices of basic necessities.

According to balance sheets provided by the authorities of the French Ministry of the Interior, the national mobilization involved the participation of approximately 320,000 citizens nationwide, of whom about 70,000 were concentrated on the streets of the capital, Paris, Telesur said.

The day of peaceful protest garnered the support of trade unions, social groups and secondary school students, who also demanded structural improvements in the education system and institutional responses to the deterioration of purchasing power.

The demonstrations, which have been taking place over the last few weeks in French territory, led to the deployment of the police contingent in strategic urban areas, closing the day with a high number of arrests and a constant call from the social sectors to maintain government demands.
