More than 300 books were donated to the library of the Nuevo Horizonte Educational Unit, located in Caracas, with the objective of encouraging the reading and learning of 1,324 students in basic and secondary education, an action that was carried out through the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC) and the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Venezuela.

The activity was attended by the Deputy Minister for the Promotion of Cultural Economy and president of the National Book Center (CENAL), Raúl Cazal, and the Colombian ambassador to Venezuela, Milton Rengifo, who reported that the donation consists of titles of poetry, narrative and essay, representative of the literary creation of both countries.

Ambassador Rengifo expressed his satisfaction at making this contribution in a sector that has a settled Colombian community and highlighted the importance of books for training.

“It has been more than verified and demonstrated that at this time, when we talk about the knowledge society, we must stimulate, reinforce and promote everything that has to do with education and the general training of children and young people,” he said, stressing that, through this alliance, Venezuela and Colombia are strengthening their ties of integration, especially in the cultural field.

Rengifo indicated that the donation from the Embassy of Colombia includes 119 titles in economics, geography, history and children's literature from that country, where authors such as Gabriel García Márquez, Fernando Vallejo, Laura Restrepo, Pablo Montoya, William Ospina, Jorge Franco, Gonzalo Guillén, Alfonso Múnera, Carlos Pizarro, and others stand out.

For his part, the Deputy Minister for the Promotion of the Cultural Economy, Raúl Cazal, pointed out that the training of young readers will give rise to the writers of the future. “The idea of reading these stories is also to be able to write our stories and here there is a lot of story to tell and there is a lot of life to tell. For us it is a great pleasure and a great honor to be here at this school to give these copies to boys and girls. We will continue to contribute to reading to raise awareness in our children and our youth,” he said.

The president of CENAL also noted that the institution holds annual literature contests to support new writing talents. In addition, he reported that the MPPC joins this donation with 200 books of different genres and authors such as Earle Herrera, Luis Alberto Crespo, Gustavo Pereira, Carmen Delia Bencomo and Teresa de la Parra. In this regard, he stressed that it is important that there is bibliodiversity so that boys and girls can choose readings according to their tastes.
