More than 15 dead in terrorist attacks in the Russian Republic of Dagestan

More than 15 police officers killed and several civilians died in terrorist attacks that were committed in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala, located in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, according to the preliminary report of local authorities cited by the Sputnik portal.

As it became known this Sunday, June 23, armed attacks took place on two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a traffic police post in Derbent and Makhachkala.

The Ministry of the Interior of Dagestan indicated earlier that a total of six police officers died and another 12 were injured. In addition, an Orthodox priest was killed by terrorists in a church in Derbent and a temple guard in Makhachkala and a synagogue guard were killed.

The Russian website also revealed that the National Anti-Terrorism Committee revealed that four terrorists were eliminated in a police confrontation with unknown armed men in Makhachkala.

The Russian Investigative Committee classified the attacks in both cities as terrorist and opened corresponding criminal cases.
