Sectors of the Historical Pact, trade union organizations and student groups mobilized this Wednesday in the main cities of Colombia to protest against the economic and social direction of the Executive led by the ultra-right Abelardo de la Espriella, less than ten weeks after his inauguration.

According to information highlighted in Telesur, popular and trade union organizations took to the streets in Bogotá, Cali, Medellín, Bucaramanga and Pereira in defense of social gains, demanding the preservation of labor rights, the strengthening of public education and the maintenance of the increases in the minimum wage achieved under the previous administration.

On the eve of the days of protest, the Colombian Government enacted a decree that alters police action protocols during demonstrations and imposes a security deployment four meters away from the contingents, a measure denounced by the parliamentary opposition as a mechanism of stigmatization against social protest.

Despite official attempts to condition the right to mobilization, the social leadership ratified the peaceful and massive nature of street days, consolidating the unity of the working class and youth in the face of the conservative turn that threatens popular advances in the New Granada country.
