Within the framework of the National Day of the Elderly, a total of 44 grandparents from the point and circle of the parish of La Candelaria participated in the activity “Cultivating Love with Grandparents”, (MINPPAU) organized by the Office of Citizen Services (OAC) of the Ministry of Popular Power of Urban Agriculture (M), in the Bolivar 1 Organoponic, located in Bellas Artes, in Caracas.

On this occasion, Jhoanna Carrillo, owner of the agro-urban portfolio, commented that “we are in the Bolivar 1 Organoponic, doing extraordinary things. In the framework of the National Day of the Elderly, President Nicolás Maduro announced great challenges that the Great Mission of Grandparents and Grandmothers of the Fatherland has in store for us, and here we are, planning an activity with the grandparents of the Candelaria parish, where they receive training in productive matters.”

Carrillo stressed that such training is “useful for staying active and learning to grow your healthy, tasty, safe and sovereign foods. “Here, together with these wonderful men and women who accompany us with great enthusiasm, joy and will, and who from their homes, in the center of Caracas, in the middle of the city will cultivate their fields with love and affection,” he added.

The Minister also pointed to the National Institute of Nutrition (INN) as an example with the “4S” points for a healthy diet. “For our older adults who should eat healthy. I am happy with this meeting because our grandparents want and like to learn to join the agro-urban scene,” she said.

The spokeswoman reported the creation of the first productive circle of grandparents and grandmothers “we must add all the grandparents of the point and circle of La Candelaria”.

Carrillo concluded by reaffirming his commitment to urban agriculture. “Urban Agriculture must be everywhere. What is concrete is that it is also green, always respecting our environment,” he emphasized.

During the day, the grandparents and grandmothers of La Patria carried out activities to seed chives, zucchini and cucumbers; they learned urban cultivation techniques and the importance of agriculture for health and well-being, on behalf of Glenda Vivas, coordinator of the above-mentioned socio-productive space.

In turn, they enjoyed singing and dancing by the companions of the Casa del Artista Foundation and they lived the experience of milking goats, enjoying a day of leisure and learning at the Bolívar 1 Organoponic.

During the activity, the owner of the agro-urban portfolio, together with the older adults, sent a message to President Nicolás Maduro Moros, via WhatsApp, highlighting the special attention paid to this union. The President without hesitation answered: “Greetings, to my dear compatriots, to the grandparents and grandmothers of the Fatherland. We were at a Congress recently and the most beautiful thing you can do is to produce, to produce with your hands. The Circle of Productive Grandmothers and Grandparents, what a good idea, you have to multiply them by thousands,” he said.
