A specimen of jaguarundi or Moorish cat was rescued on Mansa Beach in Naiguatá, in the state of La Guaira, after being found by local workers. Faced with this situation, officials from the state's Ministry of Ecosocialism and the Aquatic Police carried out the extraction and protection of the animal.

The entity's regional director of Ecosocialism, Edison Adrián, reported that the specimen is a young male, weighing approximately 8 to 10 kilos and has a fracture in the left front leg. “The animal was stressed, but it is already in the hands of zoologists and veterinarians at the Caricuao Zoo, where it receives the necessary care for its speedy recovery,” he said.

The jaguarundi is a feline typical of the high mountains of South America, including areas of the Amazon and the Waraira Repano National Park. Its presence in areas close to the coast is unusual, making its discovery in Naiguatá a rare event of great relevance to the local fauna. The authorities reported, through a press release, that after its full recovery, the animal will be reinserted into its natural habitat.
