This weekend, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous Peoples, Clara Vidal, installed the First Multiethnic and Multicultural Meeting for Peace, Respect and Tolerance, in the Cerro María Lionza Natural Monument, also known as Sorte Mountain, located in the state of Yaracuy.

According to Venezolana de Televisión, the activity was a space for fraternal encounter, the exchange of experiences of faith and spirituality, the research and dissemination of ancestral and religious knowledge in the context of the national identity expression of the cult of María Lionza.

In addition, the holder of the culture portfolio took advantage of the space to deliver the certificate that enshrines “The Candle Dance” as Cultural Heritage of Venezuela, in recognition of the traditions that are part of the collective imagination and historical memory.

“We certify that El Baile en Candela is registered in the Venezuelan Cultural Heritage register, exercising and enriching culture,” he said and recalled that this tradition is celebrated every October 11 during the night around the 12th, when the Day of Indigenous Resistance is commemorated in the South American nation.
