The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, announced that until June 30, the reception of artistic projects will be open for the VI Biennial of the South Peoples in Resistance “The Power of Diversity”, an important visual arts event with the participation of 150 national and international artists.

The information was released during a press conference held at the National Art Gallery (GAN), where the Deputy Minister of Image and Space Arts, Mary Pemjean; the director of the Institute of Image and Space Arts (IARTES), Zacarías García; the executive director of the National Museums Foundation (FMN), Clemente Martínez; and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country were present.

Villegas reported that the 6th Biennial of Southern Peoples is scheduled for October 3rd and will be a space for dialogue between the peoples of the world and informed that the event will have as guests the countries of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), nations that represent a geopolitical and cultural reality of contemporary humanity.

“We are extremely satisfied with the receptivity that these calls have had on artists from different parts of the world. This has allowed artists to dialogue with each other and show the world the beating heart of Venezuelan artistic creation,” he said.

He pointed out that this call is due to an integrative approach to the visual arts that, in addition to painting, includes drawing, sculptures, graphic arts, digital art, sound art, ceramic and textile art, photographs, body arts and popular art.

In addition, he highlighted that artists from the global South will find a showcase at the VI Southern Biennial to tell the world “how they appreciate this challenging reality that is placed before the eyes of humanity”.

The event also announced the call for the Elsa Morales National Art Salon, a plastic arts event where Venezuelan artists can participate with proposals whose subject matter, media and production techniques are free. The creators will present their projects in different museums in the national territory.
