The Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, participated in the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations World Forum of Civilizations, which is taking place in Portugal, where he said that “to achieve peace, humanity must emancipate itself from the dictatorship of markets and the algorithms of social networks”.
He considered that today, global capitalism boasts of Artificial Intelligence and it seems that human intelligence has gone on vacation and leaves fundamental decisions about human existence in the hands of businesses and networks “to impose its rationality on the world and those who do not submit to it are treated as heretics deserving of the stake”.
Villegas highlighted that terrible phenomena have emerged such as anti-Semitism, Hispanophobia, aparophobia, which is hate and rejection of the poor and recently, at least in our American continent, “a kind of Venezuelan phobia trying to turn that sacred homeland that gave birth to Simon Bolivar into a bad word.”
In this regard, he stressed that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela advocates peace diplomacy, dialogue between cultures and the consolidation of a multipolar world, without hegemonism, fascism, neofascisms and similar expressions, to achieve, as Bolívar called it in his time, “the balance of the world”.
He rejected the self-confidence and irrationality of the most dominant people in the world who today speak of a third world war.
At the beginning of his speech, he quoted the Venezuelan writer, Gustavo Pereira, and read his poem entitled “About Savages”. In addition, he said that it is an honor for him to be in the land of Fernando Pessoa and José Zaramago, the most important literary figures of the 20th century.
