The Minister of Popular Power for Habitat and Housing, Paola Posani, confirmed that in Venezuela the right to housing is enshrined in the Bolivarian Constitution, with the objective of guaranteeing decent spaces for the development of Venezuelan families.
Posani provided an assessment of the care plans implemented after the double earthquake in the country, after noting that the President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, set as a goal the delivery of four thousand homes for affected families by the month of December.
In this regard, he explained that they work hard to achieve this objective by tackling structures already built that, after receiving the corresponding technical and structural certification, go on to the finishing phase to guarantee their habitability.
He also specified that the recovery efforts have rigorous scientific support: “We can guarantee that all recoveries are supported by a pathologist and specialists who review the state of the structure. It is a technical work that is not painting; it is the revision of the structures, all the pipes, waterproofing, finishes and elevators. Everything is being done on a technical basis.”
In parallel with the emergency response, he announced that the Ministry is continuing to build more than eight thousand new homes throughout the country, planned for delivery in 2027.
Specialized housing plans
On the other hand, the head of Habitat and Housing said that, after the end of the vacancy of the temporary camps and the seismic emergency, the National Executive plans to initiate sectoral plans adapted to the specific requirements of each social group.
“The big challenge is to continue to be careful in the selection, to understand that there are young people who need housing, who, without being affected by the earthquake, are just starting out and want to start a family; that deserves a plan designed for those youth,” he explained.
For the elderly, he said that assisted housing is planned to guarantee independence without resorting to the old age scheme. In the same way, he stressed that for people with disabilities, housing is planned to be allocated with specific conditions that guarantee their comfort.
“We are trying to specialize spaces; a young family is not the same as an older person or someone who returns to the country,” he concluded.
