The Minister for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Vladímir Padrino López, reported from the state of Mérida that the production of vegetables required for the preparation of the Christmas dish is guaranteed in the country.

He estimated a production shutdown close to 900,000 metric tons during a tour of the cultivation areas located in the town of Mucuchí, the Última Noticias website reported.

“Venezuela is sovereign in vegetable production,” he said, adding that the Andean axis comprised of Mérida, Táchira and Trujillo provides 70% of the country's vegetables, a figure that reaches 80% when the harvest from the Lara state is added for subsequent distribution to Valencia, Barquisimeto, Caracas and the eastern region.

During the day in the Rangel municipality, the authorities reactivated the operations of the Plant Tissue Cultivation Laboratory in the Dr. Eduardo Ortega Cartaya Experimental Field. This technical center has 23 varieties of native and commercial potatoes oriented to the production of seedlings to obtain seeds of high genetic and health quality.

In a press release from the Ministry, he details that the official also supervised the infrastructure of the Che Guevara silos, a space intended for the protection of inputs by farmers in Lara, Mérida, Táchira and Trujillo. The facility has a planned storage capacity for 105,000 bags of potato seeds.

The institutional visit ended with the holding of an assembly with more than 300 producers from the Merida paramo, a meeting at which financing schemes were established for high-turnover inputs through the company Agropatria and the repair of agricultural machinery.

In the activity, the farmer María Cantalicia Torres received the Francisco de Miranda Order in her First Class, while three producers were recognized with the Ezequiel Zamora Order.

The ministry finalized the delivery of 100 agrarian titles in the state of Merida out of a total of 433 awards aimed at regulating 3,032 hectares. This measure was part of the simultaneous granting of 1,104 agrarian instruments in the Andean and Southern Axis of the Lake, an action that regularized 14,938 hectares with the attention of 408 peasant women.
