One of the great characteristics of the Bolivarian Government is the inclusion of women and the leading role that the so-called weaker sex has played in the ranks of the Revolution.

In this regard and with the purpose of commemorating International Women's Day, this March 8, the Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, in an exclusive interview with the Con El Mazo Dando team, assured that the participation of women in “national politics” was part of the demand of Commander Chávez's management; when the Bolivarian Revolution was established a Women's Ministry is even being created”.

In this regard, she specified that since then women have assumed “leading roles, not only in politics, but also in knowledge management (...) From there, women's applications were established to different international and national bodies, which allowed them to pave the way for others and that means professing by example”.

The head of the Science and Technology portfolio said that women's leadership is currently present in communities, since more than 70% of the representatives are female and added that, in the university sector, more than 65% of the payroll are women.

He stressed that a large part of the scientific projects being carried out in the country are carried out by women, and specified that “60% of them have master's degrees and doctorates and are under 60 years of age, which means that they were trained in Revolution.

With regard to women's participation in the scientific-peasant alliance, which is the potato seed project that currently supplies Venezuela and which represents 400 million dollars in imports, “60% are women, they are mothers of peasant families”.

“In addition, we are the ones who feed our children, our companions, our husbands, our parents, our grandmothers, and we also make love multiply through knowledge and work,” she said.

Jiménez described the role of women in Venezuela as “a virtuous circle in which we are integrated into the transformation of the country (...) with ethical exercise, with our aesthetics, with our eyes, with our truth, with our poetry, with our sound”.

“Today, in any space, in ministries, in universities, in communities, in the national productive apparatus, in social movements, you will find empowered women, but they are empowered by their own life project, their life project is not imposed either by capitalism or by any political circumstance, but today they also lead their life project and that is very important because the Bolivarian Government and the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro, Today he also says to women: we accompany you in your life project, but your life project is decided by you; we accompany you with a loving activity that respects your ideas”.

The future in the hands of women who love and build a better Homeland

The minister pointed out that there are currently 323 thousand children participating in the Scientific Seed and “54% are girls and young people who are training in robotics, who are training in chemistry, physics, astronomy and mathematics.”

“We deeply believe that science and that all national politics must have a gender perspective,” she said.
