The Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, announced that following orders from President Nicolás Maduro, issued in his Con Maduro+ program, an extraordinary meeting was held with the fishing people of the state of La Guaira to set up a technical panel to evaluate the impact of climate phenomena on the fishing sector and possible solutions to this problem. .

“In the state of La Guaira, we set up the first working table with spokespersons and spokespersons who are members of the Council of the People's Power of Fishermen, Aquaculturists and Aquaculturists (CONPPAS) to evaluate the effects of sea warming on fishing,” Minister Jiménez said in her account on the social network X.

He added that this technical table was attended by authorities from the entity's governance, the Ministry of People's Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture, representatives of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research, the Center for Oceanography and Antarctic Studies, Insoesca, and the staff of the Climate Change Observatory.

“We established the creation of the Research and Action Network to address the study and determination of the effect of climate change on national fishing production and adaptation and mitigation strategies, with the fishermen of the Homeland,” the minister reiterated.

He stressed that President Maduro has aimed to “address this multifactorial phenomenon and build, together with fishermen, a work dynamic that guarantees the sustainability of fishing practice and the preservation of marine biodiversity.”

Finally, it became known that the second phase of this technical panel will continue next Tuesday, January 30, with the activation of the research and action network to help formulate indicators to strengthen scientific studies in the area.
