The Minister of Popular Power for Tourism, Daniella Cabello, led a day of supervision of the comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation works being carried out on the Manto de María Monument, located in the city of Barquisimeto, Lara state.
The tasks are part of the guidelines issued by President Delcy Rodríguez, in an articulated work between the Ministry of Popular Power for Tourism, the Vice Presidency of Public Works and Services and the Government of Lara State.
Through a post on her Instagram account, the minister explained that the approach plan includes rust removal, general maintenance of the metal structure, waterproofing, installation of asphalt, optimization of the bathroom system and improvements to the common areas of the monument.
In the same way, as part of the safety protocols following the earthquakes recorded on June 24, an exhaustive structural review was carried out with the objective of certifying the integrity of the monument and ensuring a totally safe space for parishioners and national and international visitors.
“We want Barquisimeto to live up to one of its most sacred moments: to receive with all the honors the Divine Shepherdess and the millions of faithful who walk with her,” said the owner of the tourist portfolio, while emphasizing the spiritual and patrimonial value of the site: “Caring for the Cloak of Mary is caring for a symbol of faith that embraces an entire people”.
In addition, Cabello also emphasized the importance of religious tourism in the region's socio-economic development, stressing that this modality energizes the local economy, consolidates Venezuelan cultural traditions and projects the spiritual wealth and identity of the Larense people to the world.
He recalled that the procession of the Divine Shepherdess is considered one of the largest religious gatherings in rich Latin America.
