Minister Cabello reported the arrest of public officials for conspiracy to overthrow the Government

The Minister of Popular Power for Internal Relations Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, announced the arrest of a group of public officials related to the First Justice party in the state of Zulia, linked to a coup plot in the country.

He reported that they are Francisco Javier Urdaneta, the 5th prosecutor of the Public Ministry and José Gregorio Rondón Muñoz, Superior Attorney of the state of Zulia, who had, “around them, links with opposition leaders of the First Justice party.”

In that vein, he said that “two facts could be intertwined: the plot of corruption and conspiracy to overthrow the Government”. The holder of the ministerial portfolio showed at a press conference an arsenal of different types of caliber and models, including six Colombian-made rifles; an M4 rifle, eight AK47 rifles, six American-made M16 rifles, grenade launchers, ten grenades and a drone that they intended to use for observation.

Minister Cabello explained that “as part of the investigation, we discovered a place where Colombian paramilitary groups linked to the same characters who participated in Operation Gideon were training (...)”. The senior official added that officials were sent only from Caracas to carry out the investigative work, “there is not a single one from the state of Zulia participating and we sent them well in advance, because when we began to do intelligence on the case, we realized that it is undermined by corruption and everything controlled by José Enrique Rincón.”
