The sectoral vice-president of Security, Sovereignty and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, offered details this Saturday about the active U.S. military man who was recently arrested in Venezuela for directing terrorist actions promoted by the extreme right against the country, following the presidential elections of last July 28.

In an interview with TeleSUR, Cabello highlighted that Wilbert Joseph Castañeda has been since 2009 “a special air, sea and land operator of the United States Navy, known as the Navy SEALs, an elite group of the American Armed Forces (...) he was prominent in combat missions in Afghanistan, in 2010, and in Iraq in 2014, with extensive experience in sabotage, in explosives, urban and close combat, in free parachuting, expert in mixed weapons, pistols and rifles”.

Cabello indicated that Castañeda was arrested in Venezuela on September 1 through a follow-up operation because of information that had come to them. “We started looking for telephone connections and he was captured in the mountainous area between La Victoria and Colonia Tovar, in the state of Aragua”, highlighting that the subject has two entrances to the country, “one in March and then another on July 14 of this year. It remained between Colombia and Venezuela.”

He pointed out that the way in which the U.S. military entered Venezuela was through a relationship with a person, who was linked to the criminal group known as the Aragua Train. “Since arriving in Venezuela, he begins to make contact with politicians, he begins to make contact with people from organized crime groups, who the United States himself has been saying that they have penetrated there in its territory,” he said.
