The Minister of People's Power for Electric Energy, Rolando Alcalá, explained that the planned efforts to strengthen the National Electricity System (SEN) were temporarily reoriented after the earthquakes that occurred on June 24, prioritizing the attention of the affected regions.
During a presentation addressed to the country, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Alcalá accompanied by the president of the National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC), Juan Fernández, offered an assessment of the current situation of the SEN and the actions being taken by the sector's workforce to recover and strengthen generation, transmission and distribution capacities in the country.
He noted that, after dealing with this contingency, the workforce resumed strategic projects in the sector.
For his part, the president of CORPOELEC, Juan Fernández, explained the impact that recent external events generated on the infrastructure and the speed of response of the working class.
“The earthquake of June 24 affected and slowed down our plans. The immediate theory was to reorient our efforts to serve the most affected sectors; however, the results demonstrate the same logistics as in the state of La Guaira,” he said.
He highlighted the recovery rates achieved in record time after the emergency in La Guaira, “just three days after the event, we managed to recover 93% and in just 10 days we managed to reach about 96% of the electricity served in this state.”
He also explained that the earthquakes left significant damage in other geographical areas of the nation, specifically in the state of Carabobo and other regions of the country.
“Several transmission lines were affected and the transmission and distribution lines in the state of La Guaira were seriously affected. Our workforce, in a combined effort with the rest of the institutions, managed to restore electricity to La Guaira in just three days, leaving us to deal with the rest of the anomalies at the national level,” he said.
