The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, presented the Housing and Regularization Program, through which one million homes will be built and one million deeds will be issued to support vulnerable populations such as women heads of household, young people, indigenous people and older adults.
The main objective of the program is to guarantee the right to a roof, which was not the case in neoliberal governments where housing construction was intended as a real estate development project, Sheinbaum highlighted during the morning conference “The Mornings of the People”.
“If you look at it, we are thinking about land and housing units close to workplaces, where there are services, where there is access to public transport,” said the president.
He also explained that the objective is to provide housing, to generate housing for those who need it most, that is the objective, the right to housing, the right to a roof. It's not building houses for the sake of building housing, that's the big difference between the neoliberal period and the Fourth Transformation,” he said.
This program, covering the period 2024-2030, includes an investment of approximately 600 billion Mexican pesos, according to the government portal.
