Mexico mobilizes its Armed Forces to treat those affected and repair damage from storm Nadine

Around 24,000 Mexican Army, Air Force and National Guard personnel were mobilized to mitigate the damage caused by tropical storm Nadine in several states in the south of the country, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) reported.

In a note published by Sputnik, it states that this contingent will provide support to the inhabitants of the areas that were affected, a force made up of 13,516 soldiers from the Army and Air Force and 10,406 agents of the National Guard is deployed.

In a statement, the military entity reported that civil protection and assistance plans were activated in the states of Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco, as well as in their preventive phase in Oaxaca and Guerrero. Eleven coordinating centers, 15 shelters, six community kitchens and five tortilla machines with capacity for 45,000 hot servings per day were established in the affected areas.

In the same way, they installed seven water treatment plants with a capacity to distribute one thousand liters per day each. At the same time, safety inspections are carried out with the support of more than 1,850 vehicles, while 33 units of heavy machinery carry out street cleaning, removal of mud, debris and the removal of fallen trees.

In addition, a contingent of more than 1,500 members of disaster and emergency support units, as well as four helicopters and four Mexican Air Force planes, are being kept on alert.

Tropical Storm Nadine, which made landfall in Belize on October 19, brought heavy to torrential rains in the states of Puebla, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Guerrero, Tlaxcala, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
