The Government of Mexico formally requested a transparent and exhaustive investigation from the authorities of the United States (USA) after registering the death of Mexican citizen Emiliano Andrade-Covarrubias, 56, inside the Rio Grand Processing Center and in Laredo, Texas.
According to information highlighted in Telesur, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) specified that this case brings to 18 the number of Mexicans who died in facilities under the responsibility of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) during the current U.S. administration.
Faced with the recurrence of these events, the Mexican Foreign Ministry announced legal action, including a complaint with the Webb County Attorney's Office, while demanding expanded guarantees of consular access and medical supervision in detention centers to protect the rights of its citizens.
In addition, the Mexican Government reiterated its commitment to accompany the victim's relatives and to maintain diplomatic efforts to monitor the conditions of detention in North American immigration facilities and to avoid impunity in this type of event.
