This Wednesday, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) challenged the former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro García Luna, to present evidence that the current Government would have links to drug trafficking, as he reported in a letter.

“Write that there are tests, there are videos, there are calls, there are audios, it's very simple: let me make them known. He has everything,” said the president at his regular press conference.

The Mexican president recalled that García Luna's political career began in 1989 during the Government of Carlos Salinas de Gortari, as part of the Center for Research and National Security (CISEN), and that he was later Secretary of Public Security with Felipe Calderón (2006-2012).

“He had a very sophisticated surveillance system (...) a man who has been doing that, among other things, for more than 30 years (...) How can he not know everything related to me if it was his job, if I was an opponent? Of course he was spying on me!” , said AMLO.
