On August 19, 1906, in the town of Canchunchú Florido, Sucre state, the poet, singer-songwriter and composer, Luis Mariano Rivera, was born, who in his life stood out for his songs where between verses and harmony, the beauty of the human being and nature stood out.

From a humble origin, he grew up in the midst of the fishing culture that prevails among the inhabitants of the rural peninsula of Paria, where, after being orphaned, he found himself in the need to work with his father, so he became part of the high number of children who in rural Venezuela at the beginning of the 20th century increased the statistics of school dropout.

After long years of work, adventures and misadventures, at the age of 38, he decided to resume primary school studies, to improve his reading and writing, which after achieving them, he combined his vast experience and love for the land to compose unparalleled prose that, between verses and stanzas, draws the essence of a Homeland and its people.

Today, 118 years after his birth, the town honors the memory of this distinguished Venezuelan who continues with his song and love, reflecting the beauty of a country and a people that, inspired by their love and perseverance, irrigates their fragrance of joy like flowers.
