Lucía Borregales is promoted to runner-up in the Sambo Cadet World Championship

The Venezuelan Lucía Borregales won a silver medal in the World Youth and Cadet Sambo Championship 2026, after reaching the final of the 47 kilograms of women's sport sambo, cadet category, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

At the start of the final rounds, Borregales won a 2-0 victory over Ukraine's Polina Steblieva in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, the Venezuelan athlete equaled Mia Filipovic, from Serbia, 2-2, but she gained the advantage in the tiebreaker and secured her qualification to the World Cup final.

In the definition for the title, Borregales yielded 10-0 to the superiority of Kazakh Aiganym Assylan, and won the silver medal.

For his part, Nicolás Boggio began his career in the world championship against Kazakh Zhakhanshak Shakhmardanuly, in the round of 32. The national representative yielded 6-0, with a four-minute fight, a result that put an end to his participation in the competition table.
