The International University of Communications (LAUICOM) will hold the International Pre-Congress on Artificial Intelligence: “Who is building the algorithms of the future? Critical views from the South on artificial intelligence”, in order to promote the debate on AI, from the social sciences.
The pre-congress will be held on March 27 and 28, 2025, in virtual mode, starting at 4 in the afternoon, Venezuela time and will serve as a prelude to the international congress, which will be held in the month of October of this year 2025.
According to a press release from LAUICOM, it is expected that during these two days the debate will revolve around the emergence of AI and its significance in relation to the future, sustainability, freedom and democracy for humanity and the planet.
The conference will address topics such as: Awareness of AI; Artificial Intelligence from the South; Artificial Intelligence as an economic and political power; Critical Thinking in the Age of AI, among others.
In “AI awareness”, we will explore not only if machines can have consciousness, but whether we humans are aware of how AI shapes our lives and who is behind its development.
“Building the Future” will propose alternatives to the narrative that presents AI as the final destination in human history, proposing ways for technology to serve emancipatory projects.
“Artificial Intelligence from the South” will analyze how to break with the dependence on hegemonic models and build technological developments that respond to specific regional needs.
“Artificial Intelligence as an economic and political power” examines its dual potential: as a tool for social transformation and as a mechanism for the concentration of power.
Finally, the discursive line of “Critical Thinking in the Age of AI” defends the human capacity for questioning in the face of increasing automation of decisions.
It is important to highlight that this pre-congress will include international speakers such as Ignacio Ramonet from France, doctor in semiology and cultural history, and Edrei Robles from Mexico, leader of artificial intelligence projects at Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Among the national speakers is the sociologist Luis Salas Rodríguez, who will present his paper “War in the Age of AI, a Map for Debate”, analyzing the impact of these technologies on contemporary conflicts.
