On August 29, 1893, Laudelino Mejías was born in Trujillo, an excellent musician, composer, director of bands and orchestras who, in 1922, composed his immortal waltz: Conticinio, his most popular creation.

He excelled as a soloist in the Trujillo State Philharmonic band, composed of 18 performers, and was appointed director for several years. He directed the band Sucre, which became the second band in the Republic, after the one in Caracas, with more than 50 performers; between 1930 and 1933 he directed and promoted the band Dalla Costa from Ciudad Bolívar, raising it from 9 to 40 performers, an activity he shared with teaching, to which he dedicated many years of his life.

Mejías was the composer of 300 musical pieces: waltzes, marches, hymns and symphonies, among which, in addition to Conticinio, stand out: I sing to my mountains; Soul of my people; Silence of the Heart; Don't tell me goodbye; Heliotrope, Impossible, Maribel and Trujillo.
