The historic center of La Guaira reopened to tourists this Sunday, after four months of work to repair the damage caused by the double earthquake of June 24, said the mayor of the Vargas municipality, José Manuel Suárez.

In statements replicated by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), the burgomaster explained that the historic route will resume on November 4, from Thursday to Sunday, with the participation of more than 70 artists who will represent episodes and characters from Venezuelan history.

The works covered about three kilometers and included facades, lighting, ornamentation and drinking water and wastewater services. In addition, the recovery included 65 colonial houses, while another 23 are still undergoing rehabilitation. More than 80 families reside in the renovated houses.

The reopening also boosts commercial activity: about 10 gastronomic establishments prepared their return. The Mayor's Office offered interest-free funding to entrepreneurs, non-refundable contributions and training.

El Fortín El Vigía joins the tourist offer, with access by a path of more than 300 steps, panoramic views and gastronomic services. To reinforce security, Suárez announced the participation of more than 100 police officers.

In parallel, the municipality removed tons of debris with heavy machinery and trucks. The work was concentrated on Playa Grande, La Atlántida, the upper part of La Guaira and the historic center.

The Mayor's Office also equipped the La Esperanza Cemetery, located in Carayaca, to receive victims whose families did not choose other cemeteries. The space has terraces, drains, access roads and individual identification of graves.
