LA GUAIRA - CATIA LA MAR/President Maduro: This People have resisted and fought for independence!

This Tuesday, June 25, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the historic resistance of the People of La Guaira, who had the privilege of seeing the idea of the independence of the Fatherland born by men like José María España and women like Josefa Joaquina Sánchez.

“This people who have fought under all circumstances, who have given something to talk about in history and who saw the birth of the idea of independence (...) You saw here the great chiefs and original peoples resisting to contain European genocide and colonialism, you saw the rise of José España, Manuel Gual and Josefa Joaquina Sánchez,” he said.

He reaffirmed that today La Guaira, thanks to another great revolutionary man like Jorge Luis García Carneiro, has as its banner the first flag of South American independence.

He also specified that “empires have always wanted to dismember Peoples”, but here there are men and women who resist. At the same time, he emphasized that today “the flags of José María España are more valid and alive than ever”.
