The Judicial Nominations Committee unanimously approved the scale of criteria and scores that will be used for the evaluation of candidates for positions in the Judiciary.
According to a press release from the Legislative Branch, with this scale, the committee, composed of 11 parliamentarians and 12 representatives of civil society, complies with the provisions of article 73 of the Organic Law of the Supreme Court of Justice, which determines that this is the tool to be applied in the pre-selection process of candidates for magistrates.
The law also states that two-thirds (2/3) of the members of the Judicial Nominations Committee must approve the scale. However, this body approved it unanimously.
It should be noted that the scale is designed to transparently and objectively qualify the credentials, academic training (undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate, post-doctorate) and professional trajectory of applicants, avoiding political discretion in the selection.
This evaluation tool establishes a maximum scale of 100 points, distributed in 28 for academic training and intellectual creation, 19 for teaching and academic experience, 19 for professional experience and another 19 points for jurisdictional experience.
Finally, the interview is ranked at 15 points. In this phase, aspects of constitutional, legal, doctrinal and jurisprudential domain will be evaluated; as well as those concerning case resolution, judicial independence, impartiality, ethical-moral solvency and operational proposals for the modernization of judicial management.
