On February 23, 2005, the pioneer of anthropology in our country, the Venezuelan archaeologist of Catalan origin José María Cruxent, died.

Cruxent founded the Department of Anthropology of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research and also promoted the birth of the School of Sociology and Anthropology of the UCV.

In the state of Falcón, he created the Center for Anthropological, Archaeological and Paleontological Research at the Francisco de Miranda University.
