On June 14, 1894, José Carlos Mariátegui was born in the town of Moquegua in Peru, a thinker who stood out for his works that address the need to build an economic, political and social model that is not a copy or copy but a heroic creation of Latin American peoples.

A student of Marxist theory, he developed the most complete work of socialism framed in the Latin American reality, which led him to be described as “the most vigorous and original Marxist thinker that Latin America has ever known”.

While alive, Mariátegui published the books “The Contemporary Scene” and “Seven Essays on the Interpretation of Peruvian Reality”, leaving “The Morning Soul” and “Defense of Marxism unfinished and unpublished, which were published in 1950 and 1955. To these works, an abundant journalistic production was added, which was compiled in 20 volumes.

On April 16, 1930, he died in the city of Lima.

Today, the peoples of Latin America are inspired by their legacy to build a project of unity and a model of society based on what this giant called “Indo-American Socialism”.
