- Forty years ago, on October 17, 1984, JOSÉ ALEXANDER FERRER, student leader and leader of the Socialist League, died. He was shot in the back by non-uniformed police officers whose identification and responsibility have remained unpunished for 4 decades.
- After spending several weeks in agony, José Alexander died in the intensive care unit that tried to revive him for 42 days, at the La Isabelica Clinic in the city of Valencia, Carabobo state.
- He was studying the 4th semester of Administration, was a member of the Student Center of the University of Carabobo and a founding member of the Socialist League of Acarigua, Portuguese state.
- On September 5 of that year, he was intercepted by two unknown persons, while on his way to the Los Proletarios University Residence in the Santa Cecilia housing estate, accompanied by a fellow student, Richard Borrego, who testified that they were put against the wall and his partner shot in the back.
- Despite the efforts of the Secretary General of the Socialist League, Juan Medina Figueredo, the university authorities and his fellow students, the case turned into another “police crab”.
- Neither the Attorney General of the Republic, Héctor Zerpa Arcas, nor the Domestic Policy Committee of the National Congress, dominated by AD and Copei, nor even less the two-time Minister of Internal Relations, Octavio Lepage, raised a finger to expedite the investigation, whose evidence pointed to DISIP agents appointed to carry out the crime. It was the first year of the adeco government of Jaime Lusinchi.
