On March 15, 2014, the joropo was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, in the category of Asset of Cultural Interest.

This decision was announced by the Bolivarian Government in order to praise and spread this Venezuelan musical genre, with Commander Hugo Chávez who deepened this love for the different songs offered by Joropo.

On more than one occasion, the Commander sang his favorite songs: Motivo Llaneros, composed by Ángel Ávila and recorded by Eneas Perdomo, Lucerito de Mi Llano (Augusto Bracca), Poesia, Copla y Sabana (Pedro Telma Ojeda), Maisanta (José León Tapia and Cristóbal Jiménez) and Cajón de Arauca Apureño (Julio César Sánchez Olivo), among others.

Apure, Barinas, Guárico and Portuguesa are the most popular states where this traditional Venezuelan dance and musical genre stands out.
