This Monday, January 29, the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, confirmed that the Bolivarian Government has always made it clear that it will make decisions and make agreements within the framework of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

“There is no way for us to get out of what is established here (in the Constitution). We have said that over and over again with the delegation of the Unitary Platform (...) we have said it: Nothing we agree can go against what is established in the Constitution and in the Laws of Venezuela; and we said the same thing to the delegation of the United States of America with whom we have held meetings since May 2023,” Rodríguez said during a press conference.

In that regard, he clarified that no agreement can be above the Powers in Venezuela. “There are two things we will never do: Neither get out of the Constitutional and legal cause nor invite or pressure any Public Power, and that's how the mechanism is established, it's not that the Barbados table replaces the Supreme Court of Justice, that would be outrageous.”

For this reason, he added that the Barbados Agreement was a mechanism that is inserted in the constitutional and legal framework.
