The head of the Venezuela Nuestra Campaign Command, Jorge Rodríguez, extended his thanks to the group of opposing mayors and mayors who expressed their support for the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro for the next presidential elections on July 28 of this year.

He also reaffirmed that it is a courageous gesture by the mayor of San Juan de los Morros in the Guárico state, Sulme Ávila; the mayor of the Tinaco municipality in the state of Cojedes, Juan Carlos Zamora; the mayors of the Obispo y Rojas municipality of the state of Barinas, Adriana Azuaje and Pedro Antonio Abreu.

“Beyond the ideologies, their political approaches and the cards by which they were elected in the elections of governors and mayors in 2021, they reflect that here what matters is Venezuela, the Venezuela of peace, unity and consensus, we can think differently, (...) but here what matters is Venezuela,” he said.

He emphasized that “a lot of damage has already been done for the sake of looking for shortcuts that will lead to violence and useless diatribe (...) so we open our arms to welcome this proposal, which is for everyone and that the important thing here is to take care of Venezuela.”

Below is the full statement from the mayors and mayors in support of the candidate Nicolás Maduro:

We, mayors and mayors elected in 2021 with cards from the Venezuelan opposition, have decided to take a step forward to protect the population that trusted our proposal to govern the destinies of our municipalities. Venezuela is heading towards a period of stability, peace and economic prosperity that makes us, today, one of the safest countries with the highest economic growth in the continent.

That is why we denounce, and reject, any attempt to return to useless diatribe and violence as an instrument to obtain political positions and power. Violence has already done a lot of damage, many families were grieved and plunged into sadness, because of the cunning calculations of a few who stray from our commitment to serving our voters within the framework of the constitution.

Consequently, we announce that we have taken the decision to declare ourselves independent of any political curtain and in a free and responsible manner we support the Democratic Party's candidacy. Nicolás Maduro for the elections of July 28, 2024. We do so convinced that, beyond any political and ideological position, Venezuela requires common agreements and plans that allow us to build a future where we all fit, and where peace, stability, education, economic growth, employment and the return of our children are common objectives that guide our steps in the years to come. Let's go with Maduro for a better and secure future!

Juan Carlos Zamora, Mayor of Tinaco Municipality, Cojedes State

Sulme Ávila , Mayor of the Juan Germán Roscio Municipality. (San Juan de los Morros), Guárico State

Pedro Antonio Abreu, Mayor of the Rojas municipality, (Libertad de Barinas), Barinas state
