The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, denied this Wednesday the information that has circulated from the right regarding an alleged “coercion” on the part of the Venezuelan State in the departure of the former far-right candidate, Edmundo González, from the country.

In that regard, he noted that the meeting with González took place in a “cordial tone, a polite tone, it was a tone of exchange of views where he (the former candidate) established his intention to present a letter addressed to the president of the National Assembly.”

The parliamentarian specified that he himself received the letter in his capacity as representative of the National Assembly, at the request of a former candidate; which shows that there was no coercion on the part of the authorities. He also said that González Urritia's meeting with the vice-president, Delcy Rodríguez, was not assigned by pressure.

Regarding the decision to make known to public opinion the meeting between the extreme right and representatives of the National Executive, the parliamentarian assured that “all the people we have spoken to at the political level with the Venezuelan opposition can certify, what we said in private, we say it in public (...) and it is they who have repeatedly asked that it be kept secret”.
