The letter signed by the former presidential candidate of the extreme right, Edmundo González Urrutia, in which he complies with the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that recognizes the electoral victory of President Nicolás Maduro on July 28 constitutes a surrender, said the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez.

“This is González Urrutia's capitulation of his aspiration that was overthrown by the People of Venezuela on July 28. This is a capitulation, a surrender,” Rodríguez said at a press conference held this Thursday.

Rodríguez also pointed out that Edmundo González Urrutia hid in the Dutch embassy on the same day as the presidential election of July 28 and it was he who initiated contacts with the National Government, in order to obtain the necessary safe conduct to flee to Spain.

“The National Electoral Council (CNE) had not yet proclaimed the elected president; the false records had not yet appeared on a website; the process had not yet begun in the Electoral Office of the Supreme Court, when González Urrutia was already in the Dutch embassy,” he stressed.
