On the afternoon of this Thursday, September 19, the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, specified that the Spanish ambassador was “an exceptional witness to the signing of the letter of the far-right Edmundo González, in which he recognizes the triumph of President Nicolás Maduro, before leaving the country”.

Rodríguez said that “when we were already seated they offered us something to drink and they brought a 12-year-old bottle of whiskey, glasses and ice, along with Venezuelan chocolates. The vice president didn't drink.” He also specified that “there was a certain alcoholic whiff at the meeting before the arrival of the Spanish ambassador with the bottles and that at night, when they brought the letter proposal, there was no way to find González Urrutia, due to a tiredness enhanced by the effect of alcohol and the medications he takes for his ailments (...) that was the climate”.

He added that “the first thing we noticed in Mr. González Urrutia was a firm, not to say desperate, intention to leave Venezuela for Spain even that very day (...) and the signing of the parties to the letter was witnessed by exception by the ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, who was present at all times”.
