The Japanese Space Exploration Agency (JAXA) is preparing for the launch of the Martian Moons EXPLORATION (MMX) mission, a scientific initiative aimed at clarifying the origin of natural satellites of Mars and developing key technologies for future human exploration on the red planet.
According to information highlighted in Telesur, the Japanese Minister of Science and Technology, Yoshihiro Seki, confirmed that the liftoff will take place from the Tanegashima Space Center, with the main objective of descending Phobos for the direct collection of rock and surface material samples.
The operation represents a historic milestone in the space race, since, despite the successful ascents achieved on the Martian surface, no international ship or probe has managed to land on the floors of Phobos or Deimos.
The MMX mission marks the return of Japanese scientific probes to deep space after 28 years, consolidating a technological cooperation alliance with the active participation of NASA and various European space agencies.
