On February 25, 1859, Jacinto Lara, a general who stood out for his courage in the fields where he fought the forces of the Spanish Empire throughout the libertarian epic that culminated in Ayacucho, where he fought under Grand Marshal Antonio José de Sucre, died in the city of Barquisimeto.

Born in the town of Carora, on May 28, 1778, this independence hero received important decorations over the course of his career, such as the Order of the Liberators, given his willingness to fight and demonstrated loyalty to the causes of South American independence.

After the betrayal of the Bolivarian dream by General José Antonio Páez, Jacinto decided to abandon his military career and dedicate himself to planting.

Lara died at 81 years of age and her remains have been in the National Pantheon since 1881.
