The participation of researchers from the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) in the regional RLA 7028 project is being developed under the sponsorship of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to evaluate the storage capacity of blue carbon on the Venezuelan coasts, as detailed by the Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mincyt), Yván Gil Pinto, who highlighted the application of nuclear sciences and technologies for environmental protection and the preservation of the oceans.
With the support of the Nuclear Physics Laboratory of the Simón Bolívar University (USB), field research provides sovereign solutions to the challenges of global climate change and has the dedication of leading specialists such as Yulimar De Araujo and Professor Adrián Randón, who study the potential of mangroves and marine ecosystems in the country.
“By applying nuclear science and technology, our teams evaluate the storage capacity of blue carbon in mangroves and marine ecosystems off the Venezuelan coast,” they read through their Telegram channel.
