- During the week commemorating the anniversary of the Communist Youth of Venezuela (JCV), on September 13, 1963, the leader Italo Sardi, youth general secretary of that political organization, was assassinated by police officers.
- Italo Sardi, 29 years old, was shot twice by agents of the Judicial Technical Police (PTJ) in Los Frailes de Catia, in the middle of a police raid ordered by the government of Rómulo Betancourt to kill this outstanding student and teacher of the University Pedagogical Institute of Caracas. He left a widow and a daughter.
- Sardi's body was kidnapped by the same agents who massacred him, and was later rescued by JCV militants, in order to allow his widow and other family members to bury him in the General Cemetery of the South, in the midst of a police siege to prevent the funerals of the murdered young man from taking place.
- During this police raid deployed in Los Frailes, El Valle, La Silsa, El Cementerio, El Guarataro and La Charneca, the 19-year-old Héctor Beltrán Díaz Ramírez was also murdered, who died as a result of gunshots fired by patrol No. 342 of the Municipal Police of Caracas, in the sector known as Las Brisas, from the El Amparo neighborhood of Catia.
- The media, always submissive to the advertising standard paid for by the government and the bourgeoisie, described Italo Sardi as a “winemaker” who stood in the middle of the trajectory of police bullets.
- Clearly, the assassination of Sardi was one of the many political crimes perpetrated by Rómulo Betancourt and his minister Carlos Andrés Pérez, through the practice of the selective elimination of cadres of the JCV, the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), the Revolutionary Party for Nationalist Integration (PRIN) and other groups dissidents from the surrendering politics of the allied pact between AD and Copei.
