Israel has killed more women and children in Gaza than in any recent conflict

This Tuesday, the NGO Intermon Oxfam reported that attacks by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of more women and children than any other conflict in the last two decades, according to a published report.

It is estimated that in the past 12 months, Israel has murdered 11,000 children and 6,000 women. The numbers contrast widely with the figures for the conflict that had claimed the lives of more women: 2,600 in the war in Iraq in 2016, according to records collected by the Small Arms Survey, between 2004 and 2021.

According to data from Every Casualty Counts, the deadliest conflict had been in Syria, where more than 11,000 children lost their lives in two years, representing an annual average of around 4,700 victims.

The statistics were confirmed in various United Nations reports, which state that in the last 18 years no other armed conflict has killed so many boys and girls in a single year.
