At noon this Sunday, October 18, an explosion and subsequent fire occurred at the facilities of the El Manzano Electrical Substation, located in the Iribarren municipality of Lara state.

The incident in this section of the National Electric System (SEN) caused alarm in the nearby town due to the dense column of smoke and caused the interruption of service in several areas of the metropolitan area consisting of Iribarren and Palavecino (CABUDARE).

Members of the Iribarren Fire Department came to the scene and managed to control the fire within two hours, providing support to the technical staff of the National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC) in the maneuvers for the restoration of service.

The event affected a demand of approximately 32 megawatts, leaving the Agua Viva substation and the La Mata and Cabudare circuits in Palavecino without supply.

In addition, the contingency maneuvers involved the temporary disconnection of the Poleo substation and the San Juan, La Salle, Miranda and Rio Claro sectors, compromising an additional 30 megawatts.
