Starting this Tuesday, the review of candidates' qualifications begins as part of the process of the early presidential elections of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hadi Tahan Nazif, spokesperson for the Guardian Council, the only body constitutionally responsible for approving candidates to assume the position of president of the country, reported that “meetings to review the qualifications of candidates for the fourteenth presidential term began a few minutes ago.”

He also reported that 80 people have completed their registration as candidates for the position of head of government of Iran and has assured that the body in question expects to carry out investigations within the established legal deadline of five days, although he has said that the law also provides for a second deadline of another five days.

“The conditions of the candidates conform to Article 115 of the Constitution and all efforts of the members of the Guardian Council are aimed at using this interpretation in the process of examining candidates' qualifications,” he said.
