Agricultural production in the Islamic Republic of Iran reached 137 million tons in the last annual cycle, driven by the increase in yield per hectare and the strengthening of the country's food self-sufficiency, according to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Plant Production, Majid Anjaf.
According to official figures, this record exceeds the approximately 130 million tons reported in previous periods. The national agricultural sector currently covers about 85% of the nation's food needs, also highlighting a historic harvest of 14.1 million tons of wheat.
For their part, the authorities of the Ministry of the Industry pointed out that these results respond to the articulation between farmers, researchers and specialists. The government plan contemplates consolidating productivity through the incorporation of advanced technology and the adaptation of strategic crops.
The Iranian five-year program plans to diversify production in priority areas such as cereals, oilseeds and medicinal plants. With these measures, Tehran seeks to optimize the available rural potential and to consolidate sovereignty in agri-food matters.
