Every April 17, the International Day of Peasant Struggle is commemorated.

In 1996, this day was decreed at the Second Via Campesina Conference, in Tlaxcala, Mexico, in honor of the Massacre of Eldorado dos Carajás, in Brazil, where at least 19 people from the Landless Movement (MST) were killed by the military police.
