October 17 is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, chosen by the United Nations (UN) in 1992 through resolution 47/196, and it is an opportunity to recognize the efforts and struggle of people devoid of the material advantages of society, as well as to make their concerns heard and understand that it is precisely those who live in it who first fight against poverty, that from their experiences is possible to act more effectively to combat this global scourge.

The seriousness of this situation is enormous, since the number of people living in poverty has increased above previously estimated levels, and the current crises, both financial and food security, pose great threats to humanity. In this regard, the Eternal Commander, Hugo Chávez Frìas, stated in October 2012 that the “indignant” protests in several countries of the world were due to the pernicious effects of capitalism. “The indignados movement has called for rallies and marches around the world. That's what capitalism is: if poverty grows, hunger grows. In Venezuela, poverty continues to fall and there is no longer hunger,” he said at the time.

The Bolivarian Revolution has always given priority to human beings with the objective of giving them the greatest possible happiness.
