This Tuesday, the International Anti-Fascist Madrid chapter, denounced the censorship of Venezuelan culture and cinema, since on March 17, 18 and 24, a film series that would include the presentation of three feature films by Venezuelan filmmakers, Operation Orion, Ali and the Battle of the Bridges, would take place in the capital of Spain, at the headquarters of the House of America.
The statement details that “due to pressure from groups of the extreme right that reside in Madrid, where they have found shelter in a Neo-fascist government such as the Popular Party government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and José Luis Martínez Almeida who, using their positions, exerted pressure to censor a film festival that seeks to carry another story of Venezuelan society that has decided for itself the reins of its destiny”.
Likewise, they stress that this is another example of the censorship to which Venezuela is subject “when the story does not match the interests of the big media or their political spokespersons, they undertake a crusade to intimidate and censor those who think differently”.
“The fascism that misgoverns Madrid roams at ease and treats institutions as their personal fiefdoms, they give a platform to the most extremist factors of the Latin American right and of Europe, they allow demonstrations in favor of Franco's regime and other signs of neofascism, but like the fascists that they are, they censor culture trying to erase by force what their partners on the Venezuelan right have not been able to achieve through votes,” the statement said.
