The Permanent Commission of Indigenous Peoples will be deployed by all native communities to disseminate and debate the Organic Law of Justice of Communal Peace, approved by the National Assembly (AN) on November 12, and enacted by the Executive last Thursday.

The president of the commission, deputy Nicia Maldonado (PSUV/National) explained, this Wednesday, at the regular meeting of the instance, that the deployment seeks to socialize the law to support the Supreme Court of Justice in the implementation of the rule.

He reiterated the importance of this socialization, because "indigenous peoples are not homogeneous, they are heterogeneous, they are different communities”. He pointed out that the Yanomami have one way of applying justice; the Jivi, the Yekuana and the Pemones a different one.

He added that progress has already been made in some communities; in the Yekuana people, their special jurisdiction has been organized through the creation of a court called Tuduma Saka, which functions according to their uses and customs. In the case of the Pemones, he reiterated, their own justice system is already in place.

Maldonado commented that the responsible deputies of each state must explain precisely the purpose of the Organic Law of Justice of Communal Peace; so that, in those communities where there are Community Councils of indigenous peoples, they can be elected on December 15.

The parliamentarian reiterated that the purpose of the Law is to establish the rules for the organization and functioning of community peace justice, as an area of participation of the People's Power and Special Jurisdiction of the Justice System; for the preservation of family harmony, neighborhood and community coexistence.

Another of the points addressed at the meeting was the proposal made by the President of the Parliament, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez (Dtto. Capital), to draft the Special Liberator Simón Bolívar Law against the Blockade and Defense of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to condemn acts of treason.

In this regard, he asserted that indigenous communities will be informed of the decision taken by the National Parliament from the instance; and added that the proposal will be well received by the people in the face of persistent threats. Indigenous peoples will always be on the offensive, that is, “in the face of an attack, a counterattack, to deepen the sovereignty of the homeland,” he concluded.
