The arms escalation promoted by the European Union is causing the progressive dismantling of essential public services on the continent, by prioritizing budgetary allocation to the military sector over the social needs of the population.
According to an analysis by Professor Andrés Piqueras released by Telesur, it is “practically impossible to increase military spending without cutting social spending”, due to the high levels of deficit and public debt that strangle eurozone economies.
This prioritization of rearmament policies has a full impact on the quality of life of European workers, deepening the deterioration of health, education and social protection systems for the benefit of the interests of the military industry and the guidelines of the North Atlantic Organization (NATO).
The imposition of this warrior agenda shows how community elites transfer the cost of the crisis and militarism to the backs of the great majorities, subordinating social welfare to geopolitical confrontation.
